Japan staged a sensational fightback to deal Germany a shock 2-1 defeat in their World Cup opener as Bundesliga players Ritsu Doan and Takuma Asano came off the bench to stun the four-time Cup-winner.
Midfielder Ilkay Gundogan gave Germany the lead with a penalty on 33 minutes.
However, Japan hit back with goals from Ritsu Doan and Takuma Asano in the final 15 minutes to claim their first ever win over Germany and cause an early tournament upset.
