The actress, who was best known for her groundbreaking role in Star Trek, died on Saturday. Nichelle Nichols died of natural causes on Saturday night, her son Kyle Johnson said.
Nichelle's son Kyle Johnson announced the news on Instagram today.
She famously played communications officer Lieutenant Nyota Uhura.
