FC Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has requested president Joan Laporta to sign Lionel Messi back at the end of the new season, in the summer of 2023. The coach, who has an excellent relationship with the Argentine star, is convinced that Messi's return could bring a lot to the club both on an economic level and a sporting one, given that Xavi considers Messi still has many years left in his boots.

Xavi believes the Argentine has the quality to further improve Barcelona and has thus asked the club to study the possibility of signing him on a free transfer in 2023.

That is when Messi’s contract with PSG comes to an end potentially paving the way for Barça to sanction his return on a free transfer. Xavi believes the forward can financially help the club due to his global image which will further enhance the Barça brand.
